Chuck Jones's classic 1957 cartoon What's Opera, Doc? was an early exposure to the world of opera for a generation of music lovers. (Who can forget Elmer Fudd singing “Kill da wabbit” to the tune of Wagner’s "Ride of the Valkyries”… or Bugs Bunny in drag as Brünnhilde?!) What is this special marriage between opera and media, from television shows, cartoons, and commercials, to the internet, video games, music videos, and satellite radio? The Paley Center for Media brings together an array of talent to examine opera’s pervasive and enduring presence and meaning beyond the opera house. Clips from the Paley Center’s collection and from new media sources will be shown.
