Introduction by Pat Mitchell, President & CEO, The Paley Center for Media
For the first time, Aicha el-Wafi, the mother of Zacarias Moussaoui (the only person ever to be tried in a U.S. court on charges of having been involved in the September 11 attacks), will meet with Abdul Haqq Baker, the former Imam of the Brixton Mosque in London, which Zacarias attended while becoming radicalized.
This conversation will provide Aicha with the opportunity to ask questions of one of the men who watched her son’s descent into extremism, and to seek answers to “what went wrong.” They both want to send a strong message to mothers around the world that they can and should be the first line of defense against the ideologies of violent extremism.
