Engaging the Next Generation of News Consumers
As traditional business models for news have weakened, the news industry must look to innovators, entrepreneurs, and emerging technologies to help ensure a future for quality, public-interest journalism. But how can the industry ensure that the audience will be there, too?
On October 25, 2011, the Paley Center for Media and the Carnegie Corporation of New York presented “Engaging the Next Generation of News Consumers,” a half-day event that explored the challenge for journalists and news organizations to find and sustain an audience for original news content. The event featured brief presentations of new products and applications from news innovators and entrepreneurs representing both the academic and commercial worlds, and a moderated dialogue among a select audience of senior news executives, educators, thought leaders, and venture capitalists.

On September 29 and 30, 2009, The Paley Center for Media hosted a Media Council Dialogue, titled Media and the Muslim World: Enriching the American Dialogue, at our New York City headquarters. Held in partnership with the Carnegie Corporation of New York, this Dialogue explored how to improve the depth and quality of the US news media’s coverage of Muslim cultures, both here and abroad.
This gathering of deans, faculty, students, and journalists discussed the newsroom of tomorrow, entrepreneurial journalism, and the fragmented media landscape. It took place at the Paley Center for Media's headquarters in New York in February 2010 in partnership with the Carnegie Foundation and the Knight Foundation.
This Paley Center for Media Dialogue is sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
