Dialogue
Engaging the Next Generation of News Consumers
As traditional business models for news have weakened, the news industry must look to innovators, entrepreneurs, and emerging technologies to help ensure a future for quality, public-interest journalism. But how can the industry ensure that the audience will be there, too?
On October 25, 2011, the Paley Center for Media and the Carnegie Corporation of New York presented “Engaging the Next Generation of News Consumers,” a half-day event that explored the challenge for journalists and news organizations to find and sustain an audience for original news content. The event featured brief presentations of new products and applications from news innovators and entrepreneurs representing both the academic and commercial worlds, and a moderated dialogue among a select audience of senior news executives, educators, thought leaders, and venture capitalists.
