From Wednesday, November 18, 2009 through Friday, November 20, 2009 in New York City, the Paley Center for Media's International Council gathered the world's top innovators for high-level talks on how to thrive in the global media and entertainment economy. After exploring the media landscape from Berlin to Beijing to Bangalore at previous International Council summits, the Paley Center for Media was honored to host 160 of the most prominent media industry leaders in its hometown of New York for the first time ever.
IC 2009 NYC took great strides with a program of firsts, many of them in response to the extraordinary interest in the events. CNBC anchored their signature program, Squawk on the Street, from the Paley Center, which was the first live broadcast ever from the International Council. Live events from the meeting were streamed directly to the internet for the first time. The first ever ThinkSocial Awards were held at the three day event, recognizing the best in social media and how it can be used to address global problems. The first Hunt for the Next Big Thing session took place, providing a template for a new Paley Center initiative featuring digital startups.
