In 2009, he directed a merger between Hearst Broadcasting and Hearst-Argyle Television, resulting in Hearst-Argyle becoming a wholly-owned private subsidiary of Hearst Corporation. Bennack was an original board member of Hearst-Argyle Television, and before being named chairman in 2008, was presiding director. Hearst folded its television holdings into Hearst-Argyle Television in 1997, forming a public company. Prior to his first tenure as chief executive, Bennack served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of the corporation and, before that, as vice president and general manager of the Hearst Newspaper Group. Journalist, Novelist Lorea Canales is a novelist, journalist and lawyer from Mexico. Canales worked in antitrust and electorate law in Washington DC and Mexico, before joining Mexico City’s largest newspaper, Reforma, as a legal correspondent in 1997. Canales taught law at ITAM University in Mexico City in 2000. That year, she moved to New York, covering 9/11, among other news for magazines and newspapers in Mexico. She has published in some of the most prestigious publications in Latin America including El Universal, Cambio, and Travesías. From 2003-2006 she edited for the New York Times Syndicate- their Spanish language news service. In 2006, she worked for Felipe Calderon’s successful presidential campaign in Mexico. In 2010, Canales received a masters in fine arts from New York University. Her translation of Carol Ann Duffy's poems will be published this fall by Bajo la Luna. Her first novel, Apenas Marta, will be published this September by Random House. Canales received her masters degree in law from Georgetown University in 1995.  Juan Luis Cebrian Chief Executive Officer Grupo Prisa Juan Luis Cebrián is the CEO and chairman of the executive committee of the Spanish media group Prisa, as well as vice president of Prisa TV and chairman of the daily newspaper El País. President of News Univision Networks Isaac Lee, 39, is the president of news at Univision Networks. Born in Bogotá, Colombia to Jewish immigrants, for the past 10 years he has been a resident of the United States and has dedicated himself to chronicle the ascent of the U.S. Hispanic population. Lee began his career as a journalist at Cambio16, a newsmagazine founded in Spain. He then went on to work for TV newscasters QAP and CMI. At the age of 25, Lee was appointed editor of Cromos, Latin America’s oldest magazine, and at 26 he was named editor-in-chief of Semana, Colombia's most prestigious news magazine. While at Semana, Lee launched Soho, a men's lifestyle magazine that became the country's most successful publication. Lee then served as founding partner and editor in chief of PODER, a business magazine focused on the US Hispanic market, with pan-regional editions. Lee also founded LOFT, a magazine aimed at US Hispanics, which earned the Folio Award for Best Lifestyle Magazine in 2006, and served as editor-in-chief of Hispanic Magazine, the most widely distributed monthly publication for the Hispanic Market. In 2008 Lee produced his first documentary, "INSIDE: FARC Hostage Rescue," for National Geographic Channel International and NatGeo US. Pat Mitchell President and Chief Executive Officer The Paley Center for Media Pat Mitchell is the president and chief executive officer of the Paley Center for Media in New York and Los Angeles. She led the transition of renaming the 30 year old institution (formerly the Museum of Television and Radio) and further evolving and strengthening the mission to convene the forums and produce the programs that explore the role of media in every aspect of life and society. Using the lens of media to better understand the past, explore the present and imagine the future, the Paley Center offers the largest collection of radio, television and digital content available for public use and viewing, and offers a year round schedule of programs celebrating the best of media, past and present, as well as high level forums for global media and technology leaders. Ms. Mitchell’s diverse media experiences as an award winning producer and journalist, well known television personality and media executive prepared her to lead the Paley Center to a new level of importance during these transformative times of change in the media landscape. Immediately prior to her current leadership position, Mitchell was the president and chief executive officer at Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Under her tenure, Mitchell rejuvenated the National Program Service, oversaw the development of many new projects, including a new primetime documentary series, launch of the a new channel for children, the first public media and commercial partnership, and helped to raised the two billion dollars needed for the digital conversion of the 352 public television stations. She also established the PBS Foundation to work with local stations to create an endowment for programming and special initiatives and convened the first commission to draft a digital strategy for public service media. From 1990-2000, Mitchell was an executive in charge of original productions for Ted Turner’s cable networks, overseeing as Executive Producer more than 400 hours of documentaries and specials a year. During her tenure as President of Turner Original Productions and CNN Productions, the programs produced under her direction were awarded 37 Emmy Awards, 5 Peabody Awards, and 2 Academy Award nominations. In the mid-'80s, Mitchell founded and ran an independent production company specializing in programs produced for and about women, and she was the first American woman to host, produce, and own her own national television series, Woman to Woman, which was nationally syndicated and won the EMMY for Best Talk program in 1984. The series was also seen on LIFETIME cable channel and Mitchell produced and hosted Woman to Woman segments for NBC’s TODAY program from 1985-89. Ms. Mitchell is an active advocate for women, serving on the boards of VDAY, a global movement to end violence against women. the board of Women without Borders, and the US Afghan Women’s Council as well as being a member of Harvard University’s Women’s Leadership Board and is on NBC Universal’s Women’s Advisory Council. She is also a member of the International Women’s Forum and Chairs the Jordan River Foundation US Board. Her other philanthropic commitments include being the founding Chair of Global Green USA, President Mikhail Gorbachev’s global environmental organization, a public Trustee of the Mayo Clinics, a member of the Acumen Fund Board and the Vice Chair of the Sundance Institute Board. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and is a Director on the corporate board of AOL. She is married to Atlanta businessman Scott Seydel, and together they have six children and ten grandchildren. Chief Executive Officer Simulmedia, Inc. Dave Morgan is the CEO and founder of Simulmedia, Inc., a New York City-based start-up building a targeted advertising network for the US television industry. Morgan previously founded and ran both TACODA, Inc., an online advertising company that pioneered behavioral online marketing and was acquired by AOL in 2007 for $275 million, and Real Media, Inc., one of the world’s first ad serving and online ad network companies and a predecessor to 24/7 Real Media (TFSM), which was later sold to WPP for $649 million. After the sale of TACODA, Mr. Morgan served as Executive Vice President, Global Advertising Strategy, at AOL, a Time Warner Company (TWX). A lawyer by training, he served as general counsel and director of New Media Ventures at the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association in the early 1990’s. Morgan received a B.A. in Political Science from The Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law. He received his BA and MBA from Yale University.  Ted Sarandos Chief Content Officer Netflix Ted Sarandos has led content acquisition for Netflix since 2000. With more than 20 years experience in home entertainment, he is recognized in the industry as an innovator in film acquisition and distribution. Sarandos oversees the Beverly Hills office of Netflix with a staff of 75 people who manage the company's content acquisition through relationships with studios, networks, film makers and producers. As Netflix has grown to 12.3 million subscribers by the end of 2009, Sarandos has established Netflix as a successful film distributor within the entertainment industry. During his tenure, the Netflix library has increased from 2,000 to 100,000 titles on DVD and more than 17,000 movies and TV episodes available to watch instantly on the computer and the TV. Sarandos has enabled Netflix to provide the broadest variety of films for consumers as well as offer an alternate distribution method for smaller and independent films that might not otherwise be seen. Sarandos began his home video career managing a metropolitan retail chain from 1983 to 1988. He then moved to video distributor ETD, where he served as Western regional director of sales and operations. Until March 2000, Sarandos was vice president of product and merchandising for Video City, where he negotiated the industry's first DVD revenue sharing agreement and reduced the cost of content from all studios. He is a former chapter president and board member for the Video Software Dealers Association. He also serves on the Film Advisory Board for Tribeca Film Festival, the retail advisory board for the Digital Entertainment Group, FIND Advisory Board and MediaRights.org, as well as a serving as a trustee for International Documentary Association. Sukhinder Singh Cassidy Founder and Chairman Joyus Sukhinder Singh Cassidy is founder and chairman of JOYUS, the web’s first premium video shopping experience online. Prior to founding JOYUS in January 2011, she spent 18 years as a leading consumer internet and media executive at global and early stage companies including Google, Amazon, Yodlee, and News Corporation. Most recently, Singh Cassidy served as CEO and chairman of the board at the leading social commerce site, Polyvore, Inc., and CEO-in-residence with Accel Partners, a leading global consumer internet venture capital firm. Susan D. Whiting Vice Chair Nielsen Susan D. Whiting is vice chair of Nielsen. She was appointed to this role in November 2008. She was also named chief diversity officer in October 2010. Sharing the office of the CEO with CEO David Calhoun, she focuses on global client relations, communications and marketing, public and government affairs, corporate social responsibility, and Nielsen’s diversity initiatives. Whiting joined Nielsen Media Research in 1978 as part of the company's management training program. She became president and chief operating officer in 2001, and CEO in 2002. Following the acquisition and integration of the Nielsen company businesses by new owners in 2006, Susan was appointed chairman of Nielsen media research and executive vice president of Nielsen, with marketing and product leadership responsibilities for all global Nielsen business units. Whiting serves as a member of Nielsen’s executive council, and was a recipient of the 2009 Women Who Make a Difference Award from the International Women's Forum. Chairman, Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media NBCUniversal Lauren Zalaznick was named chairman, NBCUniversal Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media when Comcast and GE completed their transaction in 2011 creating a joint venture consisting of NBCUniversal businesses and Comcast's cable networks, regional sports networks, and certain digital properties. Her expanded new role includes oversight of the cable networks Bravo Media, Oxygen Media, Style, mun2 and PBS Sprout; and the Spanish language broadcaster Telemundo. Additionally, she runs the digital properties iVillage, DailyCandy, Swirl and Fandango, along with the Integrated Strategic Marketing group, which includes the company-wide initiatives Green is Universal, Healthy At NBC Universal and Women At NBCUniversal. Zalaznick arrived at NBC after the network’s acquisition of Universal (in May 2004) where she was the President of the critically acclaimed Universal-owned TRIO network from May 2002 – December 2005. Her first television job was at VH1 in 1994 as vice president, marketing & promotion, but Zalaznick launched her career in film, producing a number of independent feature films including the Cannes and Sundance Festival award-winning films, “Kids,” “Safe,” and “Girls Town.” |
