Types of Events

Following are brief descriptions of the types of events hosted by the Media Council.

Roundtable Breakfasts

Held at the Paley Center's New York and Los Angeles locations, Roundtable Breakfasts feature candid interviews with top media executives and a lively audience Q&A. Speakers and members enjoy an atmosphere of honest discussion, a helping of fascinating insights, and maybe even a prediction or two in this special gathering of approximately sixty industry leaders.

Recent speakers have included Dennis Crowley, Co-Founder and CEO, Foursquare; Roger McNamee, Managing Director and Co-Founder, Elevation Partners; Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO, SONY Pictures; Chloe Sladden, Director of Media Partnerships, Twitter; and Jim Lanzone, President, CBS Interactive.

Funding for the Roundtable Breakfast series is provided by City National Bank in Los Angeles.

Boardroom Luncheons

Our Boardroom Luncheons in New York are the ultimate working lunch. A select group of approximately forty members joins our featured speaker in a boardroom setup that promotes intimate conversation and an open exchange of ideas. After an informal presentation, members are encouraged to join in the discussion, ask questions, and offer their own observations on the topics at hand.

Recent speakers have included Nick Brien, President and CEO, Mediabrands, Interpublic Group; Steve Koonin, President, Turner Entertainment Networks; Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, President and CEO, Nokia Corporation; Jonathan Nelson, CEO, Providence Equity Partners; and Lauren Zalaznick, President, NBCU Women and Lifestyle Entertainment Networks.

Innovators Series

In celebration of the visionaries whose work has altered the media and cultural landscape, the Media Council is pleased to present its Innovators Series. We recognize those with a pioneering insight and a sharp instinct for staying ahead of the curve-industry leaders who have changed the way we define the word "media." Members are invited to attend these revealing one-on-one interviews and ask their own questions of some of media's most influential players.

Recent honorees have included Ariana Huffington, Co-Founder and Editor-In-Chief, Huffington Post; and Ryan Murphy, Co-Creator and Executive Producer of "Glee."

Funding for the Innovators Series is provided by Accenture.

Dialogues

One of the Media Council's most prestigious programs, our Dialogue series provides a platform for senior executives to contribute to the understanding and resolution of significant industry issues through a course of off-the-record conversations. Recent Dialogues have discussed the reassessment of television's core competencies, the evolving relationship between sports and media, and the need to develop a new business model for the entertainment industry. Approximately fifteen distinguished media leaders are invited to join these closed-door sessions in New York and Los Angeles.

Recent participants have included Jon Klein, President, CNN US; Leslie Moonves, President and CEO, CBS Corporation; Steve Mosko, President, Sony Pictures Television; George Pyne, President, IMG Sports & Entertainment; and David Stern, Commissioner, National Basketball Association.

Panel Discussions

Media Council Panel Discussions, held in New York and Los Angeles, bring together key decision-makers to converse about fundamental issues facing our industry. From advertising in the digital age to new movie distribution methods to the relationship between the government and the press, our panels illuminate matters of great debate and invite experts in the field to share their insights.

Recent panelists have included Robert Grenier, Managing Director, Kroll Inc., and former Head of Counter-Terrorism, CIA; Mary Louise Kelly, Intelligence Correspondent, National Public Radio; Norm Pearlstine, Chief Content Officer, Bloomberg LP; Stephanie Savage, Producer; and Jonathan Sehring, President, IFC Entertainment.
