In Person

Jonathan Murray, Exec. Prod.; Jim Johnston, Exec. Prod.; and the entire cast of The Real World: Brooklyn: Baya, Chet, Devyn, J.D., Katelynn, Ryan, Sarah, and Scott.

Moderator: Jeff Gordinier, Author and Editor-at-Large, Details magazine

In 1992 The Real World debuted on MTV, and although it wasn’t the first reality television program, it was undoubtedly one of the most influential. That groundbreaking first season took place in Manhattan and the show returned to the borough ten years later, but now those seven strangers are going to experience life on the other side of the East River as they take on Brooklyn. Catch a sneak peek of the new season and stick around for a panel discussion.

  • Is it more difficult for someone 18 to be cast for a season shot in the US? Recent seasons seem to have had such a heavy club/alcohol component that it would seem someone not yet 21 would have trouble fitting into recent seasons.

  • What percentage of the producer's job is instigating a story line? What percentage of the editor's job is fabricating or piecing together a compelling plot?

  • Of all the guys on the cast who is a fitness fanatic? Which of the guys have the best body?

  • For Jonathan Murray: What, in your opinion, has changed the most throughout the arc of the series regarding casting choices? Many fans assert that there is at least a loose formula for the cast as a collective group (you always or usually have at least one cast member from a minority group, usually there is someone or multiple someones who are homosexual or bisexual). Do you actively try to have a diverse cast that includes the above, or do you argue that you're merely casting a reflection of the make-up of society?
