Preview Tickets: West Side Story
Monday, March 9, 2009
New York
The Paley Center has reserved a block of preview tickets for Members and eNews subscribers to the new production of West Side Story at the Palace Theatre on Monday, March 9, 2009, at 8:00 pm.
This exciting, fully revamped revival is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Arthur Laurents, who wrote the book for West Side Story (which was originally directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins). Following the show's recent run at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C., Variety's Paul Harris wrote that Laurents's new production strives "to provide maximum relevance for today's audiences. He's done it just right—a sincere and energetic production that still dazzles with Jerome Robbins' riveting choreography and the landmark Bernstein-Sondheim score." Harris also raved about the newly discovered Argentinean actress Josefina Scaglione's performance of Maria.
Orchestra seats are available at $125 each and space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Special Paley Package
For an additional cost, Members are invited to join patrons for dinner at Blue Fin, directly across the street from the theater. As part of the dinner program, we will screen the long-lost 1958 television footage of the original Broadway cast performing "Cool"; and cast members' home movies from the 1961 film. Joining us will be Alexander Bernstein (Leonard's son); Eliot Feld and Harvey Evans, who were Jets in the original Broadway production and the 1961 film; and author and lyricist Stephen Cole—a noted authority on musical theater. They will talk about the original Broadway production, the film, and the new revival.
The dinner and special program is available as a package with a theater ticket for $350 per person.
We hope you will join us for this thrilling presentation of a musical masterpiece.
