For four seasons (1987 to 1991), the multiple Emmy–winning television drama thirtysomething perched anxiously at the center of the zeitgeist, resonating powerfully with Baby Boomers as its cast of articulate young professionals agonized over the tension between their youthful liberal ideals and the harsh realities they now faced regarding marriage, parenthood, and careers. A forerunner of such literate, multilevel programs as The Sopranos and Mad Men, thirtysomething remains a television landmark and is sorely missed by its adoring cult. The Paley Center is delighted to reconvene members of the cast and creative team to celebrate the series on the occasion of its long-awaited release on DVD. We will also screen the series pilot.
