Following the tremendous success of his acclaimed hit Empire, Academy Award–nominee Lee Daniels continues to examine the gritty and dark reality of the music business with the highly anticipated STAR. The Paley Center is pleased to premiere the pilot of STAR before its launch on FOX on December 14. Created and executive produced by Daniels and Tom Donaghy (The Whole Truth), STAR follows the ambitions of three talented singers (newcomers Jude Demorest, Brittany O’Grady, and Ryan Destiny), as this girl group navigates the treacherous music industry. Grammy and Emmy–winner Queen Latifah plays the surrogate mother to the girls, while Benjamin Bratt is featured as the agent who hopes to revitalize his career with the group. Legendary Lenny Kravitz will also make guest appearances on this series that spotlights original music. After the screening, Daniels will discuss the production of his Atlanta-set series, for which he also directed the pilot.
