SUBURGATORY: THE WITCH OF EAST CHATSWIN (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a single father and his daughter, both from New York City, trying to make a new life for themselves in the suburbs.

In this episode, Tessa tries in vain to dissuade her classmates from embracing "slutty" Halloween costumes, and Dallas, planning to dress as Barbie, is disappointed when George casually declines to be her "Ken." Tessa begins to suspect that she is being followed, and Noah tries to perfect his George impression for his costume. Sheila is horrified when a book of Celtic runes – or "the scrawl of Satan" – appears in Tessa's bag, and she dramatically explains that it is the work of "the witch of East Chatswin," also known as her long-ago classmate and enemy, Paula Weingelb. Tessa receives more messages from the "witch," and a terrified Lisa decides to consult the spirit world, informing Tessa that she has "lost her edge" since moving out of New York City. George takes drastic action and shaves his beloved beard in order to accurately portray Noah for Halloween, and Tessa, dressed as Daphne, abandons the rest of the Scooby gang to visit Paula. She is shocked when she does, in fact, appear to be a scary witch.

George attends the country club Halloween party and discovers the perks of "floating through life" like the affluent Noah, and Tessa discovers that Paula is simply an eccentric, intellectual feminist who wished to bond with Tessa after overhearing her comments about degrading Halloween costumes. Dallas arrives at the party with "Skipper" in tow, and Dalia, assuring George that he looks "so better" as Noah, informs him that her mother wishes him to be "her Ken" for more than just Halloween. Surprised, George decides that he, too, is ready to move beyond "flirty friends," and he asks Dallas on an official date. Tessa defends Paula when Sheila and her Puritanical cohorts attack her, and they are shocked when Paula "magically" disappears. Later, Tessa muses that her mother's decision to abandon her was, in a way, a "brave" feminist act. Elsewhere, Noah gifts George with his new plaid shirts, admitting that he "got carried away" with his costume. Includes commercials and promos.
