ADVENTURES OF PETE & PETE, THE: VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about two young brothers who are both named Pete. In this episode, Big Pete explains how he accidentally killed his school's mascot, a squid named Edna, when he heeded his father's encouragement and tried his hand at discus-throwing. He, Ellen and Little Pete bury the squid and vow to keep the secret. At the same time, however, he develops a crush on his eccentric math teacher, Ms. Fingerwood, a sentiment shared by the shy janitor and squid-guardian, Mr. Beverly. Open-Face, Pete's sandwich-loving nemesis, tells Mr. Beverly about Pete's crush and promises to tell him to back off in exchange for Edna, whom he falsely says he will "set free." Mr. Beverly agrees, not revealing that Edna has mysteriously "run away." Pete attempts to declare his love for Ms. Fingerwood in a poem, but she misses the point, though Ellen does not, and she soon states to him that they can no longer be friends. Open-Face and his gang attack Pete, ordering him to stay away from Ms. Fingerwood, but the plan backfires when she sees his injuries and expresses her sympathies, much to Mr. Beverly's distress.
Open-Face decides that he needs to blackmail Big Pete, and when Little Pete refuses to give him any dirt, he attempts to woo Ellen with a kite-flying date and asks her to reveal Pete's secrets. Big Pete struggles with his desire to give Ms. Fingerwood a Valentine, and Open-Face finally demands a showdown, bringing along his gang, Ms. Fingerwood and Mr. Beverly. Little Pete frantically calls Ellen as Big Pete orders Open-Face to leave her alone, but Open-Face reveals that Ellen told him Pete's big secret. Pete decides to confess the truth about Edna to Mr. Beverly just as Ellen arrives to explain that she didn't tell Open-Face after all, but Mr. Beverly forgives Pete when he learns of his respectful treatment of the departed squid. Ms. Fingerwood is then charmed when Mr. Beverly presents her with a mathematically-accurate Valentine, and Big Pete gives one to Ellen, signaling their reconciliation. Commercials deleted.
