TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JOHNNY CARSON, THE {GARRY SHANDLING, GEORGE FOREMAN} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, the guests include actor/comedian Garry Shandling and former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman. In his opening monologue, Carson comments on the following topics, among others: people camping out in front of the studio as the last show approaches; a recent visit to Restaurant Row in Burbank; the final episode of "The Golden Girls"; General Electric informing bandleader Doc Severinsen that he will no longer be allowed to use the name "Tonight Show Band"; President George Bush's visit to Los Angeles and his response to the movie "White Men Can't Jump"; a health report about taking vitamin C on a regular basis; and plans for a new twenty-four-hour game show channel. Next Carson shows clips of a comedy sketch featuring his impersonation of Ronald Reagan and a montage of the many sketches featuring pie throwing. Carson's first guest, Garry Shandling, discusses the following topics: how much he's going to miss the show when it ends; some advice he got from his psychiatrist; visiting Doc at his ranch; his new show, "The Larry Sanders Show," in which he plays a late-night talk show host; possible material for the show; Sonny Bono's run for a senate seat in California; what his greatest fear would be if he ran for president; working out at Gold's Gym because it is the only Jewish chain; and why he never works out his rear end. Next, George Foreman joins them and discusses what his face felt like after his last fight, his age compared to the average age of his opponents, the differences in punching power for fighters, why he always feels queasy at the sight of blood in the ring, the nicknames his children had for him when his face was swollen from getting punched; when he plans to officially retire from boxing, his eating habits, and working with Tony Danza on a television sitcom. Includes commercials and promos.
