SILK STALKINGS: RUNWAY STRIP {SIXTH SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about a pair of detectives in Palm Beach who investigate society murders. In this episode, navy fighter pilot Randy Rawlings engages in a bedroom liaison with fellow pilot Carolyn Mayfield, who wants to break up with him. After they argue, she threatens to go to the base commander with information about him. The next day, co-pilot Randy ejects Carolyn from the jet at a low altitude and ensures that she is killed, after which he safely ejects himself upward and allows the jet to crash. Meanwhile, Tom comes into work and is angered to see that his old mustang has been painted candy apple red by his ex-wife Cassy. Captain Harry Lipschitz wants to team Tom and Cassy up again, something neither of them relishes. Harry tells an infuriated Tom that he only has to work with Cassy for two weeks. The exes decide to suck it up and figure out a case to work on together. Before they start the legwork, however, Tom gets a tip that Carolyn was murdered by Randy. Tom and Cassy head to the crash scene to investigate the remains. Naval intelligence officers Ken Baines and Barbara Ferry tell Tom and Cassy that they have full jurisdiction. Cassy -- who immediately nicknames her counterparts Ken and Barbie -- is angered when they are kicked off the scene. Next, the two detectives head to Randy's beach house, where they find him hosting a keg party that features a big bonfire. Tom and Cassy question Randy on his relationship with Carolyn and he claims it was only professional. He also maintains that the crash was due to mechanical failure. Afterward, Cassy discusses how some pictures had clearly been removed from his shelf. Cassy admits to Tom that she stole the guest toothbrush from Randy's bathroom. Then, Harry calls to pull the detectives off the case. Cassy wants to ignore the captain's orders and Tom agrees. Tom and Cassy go to investigate the anonymous tip, traced to an adults-only club: The Runway Strip. There, Cassy notices Ken and Barbara checking out the joint and move in to harass them. They later surrender the toothbrush taken from Randy's home. After learning that the call was probably made by stripper Dollie Loveless, Tom and Cassy go to her place. There, they find the woman bloodied and with a faint pulse, right before a masked person shoots at them. Before leaving Dollie's apartment, Cassy finds a picture of Carolyn as a dancer at The Runway Strip, posing with Dollie. When Ken and Barbara show up, Tom has them escorted off the scene. Harry is furious that Tom and Cassy disobeyed his orders and suspends them. At 5 a.m. the next day, Tom calls Cassy and suggests heading to Ken's boat to find the results of the DNA test on the toothbrush. There, they find him making love to Barbara. Using blackmail about exposing the navy couple's affair, Tom and Cassy convince Ken and Barbara to team up with them. The four head back to Randy's house to look through the remains of a bonfire from the keg party. Tom finds a burned photo from the bookshelf that shows Randy kissing Carolyn. Randy sees them and tries to make a run for it. Eventually, Cassy and Randy get in a standoff and she is forced to plug him as he threatens to shoot Tom. Finally, Tom and Cassy agree to remain partners as they go out for drinks. Commercials deleted.
