WEST WING, THE: ISAAC AND ISHMAEL (TV)

Summary

One in this series of dramas about the day-to-day running of the White House and the lives of its staff. This special episode aired within a month of September 11, making the series the first episodic entertainment program to confront the terrorist attacks. Before the program begins, cast members address the audience directly, asking for contributions for a fund for victims of the September 11, 200l terrorists attacks. In this episode, presidential aides and high school students discuss terrorism and tolerance while they are caught in the White House during a high-security lockdown. An FBI search for a suspected terrorist leads them to an Arab American White House worker. A "crash" is called, shutting off the entire White House building, and Leo begins questioning the man. Meanwhile, Josh gets stuck in the White House kitchen with a group of gifted high schoolers. While in the kitchen, the kids question Josh about his views on the war against terrorism as a member of the White House staff. Other staffers including Sam, C.J., Donna, Toby, and even President Bartlet answer questions from the kids and discuss their feelings about terrorism and, in particular, the treatment of Arabs.
