MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO SEMINAR SERIES, THE: THE HAPPY DAYS REUNION {LONG VERSION}

Summary

One in this series of seminars conducted by The Museum of Television & Radio. Held at the Museum in Los Angeles, this seminar celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of "Happy Days."

Mary Hart (anchor, "Entertainment Tonight") moderates the following panelists: co-showrunner Fred Fox, Jr.; producer Michael Levitt; and cast members Tom Bosley (Howard Cunningham), Erin Moran (Joanie Cunningham), Donny Most (Ralph Malph), Marion Ross (Marion Cunningham), Anson Williams (Warren "Potsie" Webber), and Henry Winkler (Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli).

After a clip reel of highlights from the show's ten-year run from 1974-1984, Moran discusses whether she got sick of portraying such a "pure" and "chaste" character. The panelists further discuss the following topics: who the leader of the cast was; why 1950s nostalgia became so big in the 1970s; why the show switched from a single- to a three-camera format; the casting process; the effect of "American Graffiti" on the show; how the character of Fonzie was created; Fonzie's catch phrases ("Aye!," "Whoa!," and "Sit on it!"); why Fonzie initially wasn't allowed to wear a leather jacket; show creator Gary Marshall; "Happy Days" spin-offs; Robin Williams and his work as "Mork" on the show; Winkler's "Cossack dance"; and Winkler's "Temple days."

Questions from the audience then lead to a discussion of the following topics: favorite episodes; "jumping the shark"; Winkler's recent work on "Arrested Development"; the mysterious "brother Chuck," played by Gavan O'Herlihy and Randolph Roberts; the cast softball team; and the day John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and Keith Moon hung out on set.
