Summary

Part two of a seven-part series on black America. This program pays tribute to the military role of blacks in American history. African-Americans' contributions to and participation in the armed forces throughout American history is acknowledged in words and pictures from the Revolutionary War to Vietnam. This program also traces the progress of the blacks' status in military life, from the "U.S. Colored Troops" after the Civil War to a 1948 law signed by Truman enforcing integration and guaranteeing the blacks equal treatment and opportunity in the armed forces.
