MERCURY AUTOMOBILES {KENYON & ECKHARDT: HISTORICAL REEL 1}

Summary

In this commercial for Mercury, Ed Sullivan is shown on stage during a broadcast of his popular television variety show. He explains that the 1956 Mercury is just as affordable as any of the so-called "Low-priced Three": Plymouth, Chevrolet, and Ford. He proceeds to point out that a hard-top Mercury, with its low "silhouette styling," has more power, comfort, and style than any of its rivals. "Take our trail-blazing Mercury safety features, for instance," he says. "Only Mercury in its field gives you as standard equipment, at no extra cost, mind you, safety door locks, safety grip brakes, and safety beam headlights." He adds that several other safety options are also available, including seat belts and padded dashboards.
