LAVERNE & SHIRLEY: NIGHT AT THE AWARDS (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about two young working women, following their humorous adventures from the 1950s through the 1960s.

In this episode, Lenny and Squiggy finish their first screenplay, "Blood Orgy of the Amazon," and decide that Joey Heatherton should star in it. Squiggy tells Lenny that he can get two tickets to the Golden Circle Awards, at which Joey will be a presenter. After cementing plans to give her the script there, Squiggy secretly steals Lenny's "sock money" from the freezer to pay for the tickets.

Meanwhile, Lenny tries singing at Cowboy Bill's to raise cash, earning the ire of Laverne, Shirley, Carmine, and Phil in the process. Squiggy arrives and lies about how he secured the cash, attracting the attention of aspiring actress Bridget in the process. The boys bring Bridget back to their apartment to "rehearse" when Rhonda -- having heard of their planned attendance at the awards show -- interrupts to see if Squiggy will take her along. Squiggy initially agrees but changes his mind when it appears that Lenny will then discover the fate of his sock money.

Backstage at the ceremony, Lenny literally falls at Joey's feet, after which she accidentally steps on his hand. When the actress is spirited away to make her presentation, the boys pursue her onto the stage and get her to say the name of their film -- much to the horror of Laverne and Shirley, who are watching the show on television. Later, Joey tells Lenny and Squiggy that she has read their script and is too busy to act in it, though she thinks it's "a brilliant comedy." A deflated Squiggy finally admits to Lenny how he got the money for the tickets, after which Lenny forgives him. Commercials deleted.
