Summary
A police drama television series about U.S. Marshal Annie Frost and her team as they track down and apprehend dangerous criminal fugitives across Texas. The episode begins as U.S. Marshal Annie Frost chases down, fights, and apprehends a drug dealer almost single-handedly. Back in their base in Houston, Annie and her team are introduced to Luke Watson, a new recruit whom they are instructed to bring with them for training. Luke is excited to be working with them, but his obvious inexperience irks Annie. They receive a call concerning a man named Mason Boyle, a dangerous criminal who robbed and shot a family. He was imprisoned at age 18 for cutting off a woman’s finger to get her ring, and escaped from prison in 2005. They decide to investigate Mason’s mother, who just moved to Houston. The Marshals raid Mrs. Boyle’s house, where she admits that Mason visited her and gave her money. She tells them that Mason is staying with a waitress named Laura Ross. They inspect Laura’s place and find few traces of Mason’s presence. When interrogated, Laura seems devoted to Mason and reveals he recently proposed to her, giving her a ring from the robbed house. Annie takes the ring and the Marshals determine based on evidence that Mason was somehow involved with a local construction company. Meanwhile, Mason steals a woman’s car and escapes notice. The Marshals convene and determine that Mason seems to associate with blonde waitresses and that he deliberately avoids killing little girls, suggesting that he has a daughter of his own. Annie visits Kayla, the daughter of the robbed family, in the hospital; she seems sympathetic to her plight and vows to catch Mason. Mason robs a second house and the Marshals suspect he may be getting information about the families he is robbing via their insurance information. Meanwhile, Laura confronts Mason about the Marshal’s presence and he denies accusations of murder. Later, the Marshals find Laura’s dead body in the trunk of her car, murdered by Mason to keep her quiet. Annie and her partner Jimmy investigate the insurance company and find out that both the construction company and both of the robbed families’ safes were appraised by the same man, Paul Lofgren. Paul meets with Mason and tries to get out of their deal; he cooperated with Mason to pay for his sister’s medical bills but didn’t expect murder to be involved. Later, Paul calls Annie and tries to confess but Mason is waiting for him and murders him before he can say anything. He and Annie talk on the phone but he hangs up before she and Jimmy can trace the call. By the time they discover Paul’s body, Mason is long gone. In San Antonio, Mason tries to steal a car from a couple exiting a bar; the woman makes a frantic call to the police saying that her boyfriend scared him off with his handgun and that he might be injured. Annie and the Marshals track down Mason in the woods outside San Antonio, but it is actually the other half of the couple, with whom Mason has switched himself. The next day, Annie and Luke visit Mason’s old high school in Odessa on a hunch. She remembers the report of Mason cutting off a woman’s finger for her ring, and believes he intended to give that ring to his high school girlfriend. After looking through his high school yearbook, Annie discovers his girlfriend, Jesse Lynn Peele, via a matching tattoo between the two of them. Jesse works as a real estate broker in Odessa now, and she finds herself confronted by Mason. She tries to run but can’t escape; Mason explains that his scheme was to save up enough money to run away to Mexico with her, but she refuses. Annie and Jimmy pose as a married couple looking to buy a home and visit Jesse. Annie notices a picture of her ten-year old daughter Sissy and intuits that she is Jesse and Mason’s daughter. Jesse helps the Marshals track Mason to a nearby motel; when they try to surround the premises and apprehend him, they find that Mason has eluded them again. Mason meets Sissy at her school’s playground and tells her he’s her father. Upon reviewing security footage, the Marshals discover that the disguised Mason escaped by being escorted out by Luke accidentally. They find out that Mason kidnapped Sissy and that he’s heading for the United States/Mexico border. Mason heads for the border with Sissy in his pickup truck, but when he spots police he pulls over and leaves Sissy, traversing the remaining distance on foot. The Marshals aren’t far behind, and Annie discovers Mason’s location from Sissy. The Marshals arrive at the border crossing and cordon off the area looking for Mason. Annie finds him and a chase ensues as he tries to evade them in the river, but Annie catches up to him and, with assistance from Jimmy, incapacitates Mason. The Marshals finally arrest him. Annie visits Kayla in the hospital and gives her mother’s ring back. The Marshals celebrate their victory that night, but the episode ends as Annie receives another call. Commercials deleted.
