MY WORLD AND WELCOME TO IT: WAR BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series based on the illustrations of cartoonist James Thurber.

John explains the idea for his latest cartoon series based on recent events: he was hosting a party when a guest, Phil, kept being interrupted by his wife Ruth while trying to tell a story. They argue and eventually Phil deliberately spills his martini all over Ruth. The next day, John and Ellen meet Phil and Ruth in the grocery store, where they continue to argue. They throw things at each other; John describes these scenarios as stages of a “war” between men and women.

John, Phil, and a few other disgruntled husbands meet in a bar after Ruth bars Phil from entering their house. They decide they will not stand for this and agree to sneak Phil back into his house. Meanwhile, Ruth meets with Ellen, distraught over the whole situation. However, her friends manage to convince Ruth that she is in the right and that Phil should apologize for his behavior.

Late that night, the husbands return to Phil’s house, all drunk. They plot to sneak Phil back into his house, but their plans are ruined when a “sniper” (an old lady awakened by their antics) yells and throws pots at them. Their plan ruined, they instead try to make peace with their wives, but to no avail. Angry, they burst in and try to get their wives to come home with them. When that doesn’t work, they threaten to cut them off from their charge accounts; this seems to intimidate the women into compliance. The episode ends as John returns home and begins writing about the scenario, whilst Ellen indicates that she isn’t as forgiving of him as she might seem. Commercials deleted.
