CNN SOVIET COUP COVERAGE, HOUR 47: LARRY KING LIVE

Summary
Continued from T:27598. The 47th hour of CNN's
coverage of the attempted coup against Soviet President
Mikhail Gorbachev. On "Larry King Live," King
introduces former Colorado Sen. Gary Hart, author of the
recently published book "Russia Shakes the World," in
which he warned of a possible coup attempt against
Gorbachev. Sen. William Cohen (R-Maine) and Rep. Robert
Torricelli (D-N.Y.) join Hart to discuss the United
States' reaction to the coup and the intelligence about
the coup before it occurred. They debate whether Pres.
George Bush could have done more to support Gorbachev
and which course of action would be best at this point.
Included are excerpts of a Moscow broadcast (shown on
Russian television) that shows tanks breaking through
barricades and people throwing Molotov cocktails and
handmade bombs at the tanks. Moscow bureau chief
Steve Hurst reports on recent developments as the
evening draws to a close. As this hour concludes,
King's guests respond to viewer call-in questions.
