TRACEY TAKES ON . . . 1976 (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series showcasing the many talents of actress/comedienne Tracey Ullman. Each episode "takes on" a particular subject, with the versatile Ullman portraying a wide variety of characters in a series of sketches. This edition begins with Ullman talking about how her life was back in 1976 and features Ullman in, among others, the following segments in an ongoing storyline: TV character Vicky Starr -- played by bigger-than-life actress Linda Grainger -- tries to fly a plane after terrorists poison the crew; as the show plays on a fast-paced magazine office's TV, intern and neo-hippy Hope Finch learns about office politics; Janie's magazine hosts a '70s party at the infamous Stage 24 disco nightclub; Janie and Hope take Middle-Eastern Chic's cab to the party; Chic reminisces about meeting Janie back in 1976 when he helped her sneak into Stage 24. During Chic's 1976 reverie, agent Candy Casino and Linda broker deals at Stage 24 for both her new TV show and some cocaine; Janie sees Linda doing the coke in the bathroom, which leads to her writing an article that eventually makes her famous. Back in 1996, Hope confronts Janie with her checkered history concerning Linda. However, veteran Hollywood makeup artist Ruby Romaine claims that she was the one responsible for Linda's professional demise during their time together on the TV show "V.I.P. Lounge."
