CELEBRITY MOLE: HAWAII {EPISODE ONE: ZIP LINE CHALLENGE; SHEEP/CARD GAME} {THIRD SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere in the celebrity version of this reality series in which contestants compete in physical and psychological games, the whole time trying to overcome a saboteur from within -- the mole. First, host Ahmad Rashad welcomes to the big island of Hawaii the seven celebrities: comedienne Kathy Griffin; actor Stephen Baldwin; actor Corbin Bernsen; actor Michael Boatman; actress Kim Coles; actor Erik von Detten; and supermodel Frederique van der Wal. Immediately, the first game, "On the Line," begins as the team divides into a "strong" group of four and a "hang out" group of three. The "hang out" celebrities are suspended on a zip-line over a waterfall in order to go into the water below and hopefully fill enough buckets with water in order for them to retrieve a counterbalanced bag of money. Baldwin goes first, getting pelted by the waterfall before eventually causing the money to be retrieved. Bernsen talks about how suspiciously Coles played the first game, seemingly trying to sabotage Baldwin's efforts. Baldwin discusses his difficulty with the challenge that netted $10,000 for the group pot. Then, before van der Wal goes, Rashad introduces a "twist": The supermodel will have to beat Baldwin's time in order to net another $10,000. Then, with the "strong" players rotated, van der Wal heads to the waterfall and the money bag. Van der Wal's attempt is a disaster -- she doesn't beat Baldwin's time -- and it makes her wonder if Bernsen was sabotaging her with his lackluster cranking efforts. Next, after another "strong" rotation, a fearful Boatman makes his attempt, scared that his wife could be angered at him for trying the stunt. Boatman's run is a success and he beats Baldwin's time, netting the team a second $10,000 to add to the pot. Afterward, Rashad issues each of the seven celebrities a journal in which they are to write their observations about their fellow players. The journals will later be used in the elimination quizzes which determine the order in which players are "executed." The celebrities privately discuss who they currently think the mole is. Then, Rashad takes the celebrities to their residence at the Kahua Ranch where the seven are supposed to get to know each other better. The next game the celebrities play is "Baa Baa Black Jack" in which they will try to rustle a "deck" of sheep (each sporting a sheet which depicts a card on it) into a fenced-off enclosure to beat Rashad's blackjack hand. The celebrities pair up into groups of two, with Baldwin left on his own. Von Detten and van der Wal's team strikes first, beating Rashad's hand and scoring the pot another $5,000. Bernsen ends up getting cut on his arm, due to Cole's seemingly intentional incompetence. Von Detten and van der Wal are given another chance to beat Rashad's hand and they are again successful, earning the pot another $10,000. Von Detten discusses his strategy to make the other celebrities think he is the mole, but realizes that he forgets his gameplan once he begins playing. Afterward, Baldwin is given a chance to double the money by catching the "mole" sheep. Following a long rumination, Baldwin decides to participate in the challenge. He easily succeeds, upping the pot to $50,000 and earning him an exemption from the first execution. On the ride back to the hotel, the other celebrities wonder if Baldwin's skill at sheep-herding was actually proof that he is the mole. Boatman recalls another incident that makes him believe Baldwin could be the mole. Then, Griffin discusses her plan to form a coalition with Baldwin. That night, the celebrities sit down for dinner before execution, discussing who they think the mole could be. Then, Rashad presents the celebrities with their first ten-question quiz. The player scoring worst on the quiz is executed. Each celebrity further discusses what they believe they have figured out about the mole. Then, at the first execution, Rashad inputs each player's name into the computer and the first victim executed is Coles. Afterward, the remaining six contestants discuss Coles's elimination. (The conclusion of the program leads into the first minute of "Eyewitness News," featuring a story about California's poultry industry being at risk.) Includes commercials.
