Eisenhower at SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe), near the forest of Marly, France, and looks at a typical day in his command, including visits from Sen. Richard Russell (D-Ga.), Gen. Jerry Persons, George F. Kennan, Princess Margaret, and Winston Churchill; Eisenhower discusses whether our European allies are doing enough; Chief of Staff Alfred M. Gruenther describes SHAPE as a union of twelve countries for their mutual defense; British Major Gen. Francis Festing discusses modern warfare; Field Marshal Montgomery describes a good regiment; Eisenhower inspects the troops; David Schoenbrun interviews French premier RenŽ Pleven on Eisenhower; the mayor of Orgeval, France discusses Eisenhower and Western defense; others offering comments include the French "man on the street" and a member of the Folies Bergere; Pleven speaks on the anti-rearmament talk; writer Eva Curie discusses whether France will fight; and the program concludes with Eisenhower quoting "Vigilance is the price of liberty."
