Susan Orlean Presents Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend

Oct 12, 2011
7:00 PM PT
Los Angeles

Tonight offers a unique event for the Paley Center Los Angeles: an evening with celebrated New Yorker writer and best-selling author of The Orchid Thief, Susan Orlean, who conceived her latest book, Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend, about animal-superhero Rin Tin Tin, in the spirit of a documentary. In one of the most anticipated books of the year, Orlean relates the sweeping tale of the German shepherd’s astonishing journey from orphaned puppy during World War I to a movie and television icon for several generations. Ms. Orlean will discuss the myth vs. the reality of the hero dog and screen clips of Rin Tin Tin's television career, recognizing the producer who made it possible, Herbert Leonard. No matter what the media, the affecting narrative of Rin Tin Tin underlines the enduring bond between man and animal. A book signing will follow the program.
