The Paley Center is pleased to screen Playhouse 90: The Helen Morgan Story (1957) followed by an interview with its star, Polly Bergen.

Polly Bergen won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Helen Morgan, the legendary singer and Broadway star of the 1920s. This live telecast was written by Leonard Spigelgass and Paul Monash (with Helen Morgan’s mother, Lulu, acting as a script consultant), and directed by George Roy Hill—and features Hoagy Carmichael, Sylvia Sidney, Robert Lowery, Reginald Denny, Ronnie Burns, Lili Gentle, and Benay Venuta.

Following the screening, special guests Polly Bergen and Rex Reed will talk about the making of the television program and Bergen's special affinity for Helen Morgan’s signature songs, including "Why Was I Born" and "Bill."

Presented with the Ziegfeld Society.
