In advance of its season two premiere on February 3, 2015, the Paley Center welcomes Brock Akil, and members of the cast and creative team for a an exclusive Season Two premiere screening celebrating the acclaimed hit—last season’s number-one new original drama series on all cable among adults 18-49 and women 18-49.

BET’s Being Mary Jane has been embraced by critics and audiences alike, praised for featuring characters that highlight multiple dimensions of women’s lives, regardless of race. Created and executive produced by Mara Brock Akil (Girlfriends, The Game), and executive produced and directed by Salim Akil (Sparkle, Jumping the Broom), the series follows the life of “Mary Jane Paul”—a single, young, successful African-American television news anchor (played by Gabrielle Union) who juggles a demanding job with a complicated personal life. As The Atlantic noted, “Being Mary Jane has the potential to slowly alter the way viewers see and relate to African-Americans as a people whose lives and experiences—their good and poor decisions, and their trials and triumphs—can be encompassed into cultural and social norms in the same way that the lives and experiences of white Americans have been for centuries.”
