One of the most highly anticipated television productions of 2015 is BET’s epic miniseries The Book of Negroes, which looks at slavery from a woman’s point of view. Adapted from the acclaimed novel by Lawrence Hill, The Book of Negroes recounts the resourceful journey of Aminata Diallo, an invincible African woman who was sold into slavery in South Carolina and secured her freedom during the American Revolution. The Paley Center is pleased to welcome the creative team behind this universal tale of loss, courage, and eventual triumph. Highlights of the series will be screened, as well as the complete fourth episode in which Aminata works with the British Navy to recruit Black Loyalists for an escape to freedom in Nova Scotia. After the screening, the panel will talk about this little-known period in 18th century American history.
