Casey Bloys in Conversation with Issa Rae

Casey Bloys, who first joined HBO in 2004, was named President of Programming in May of 2016. Over the course of his tenure at the cable network, Bloys has overseen some of HBO’s most acclaimed series including multiple Emmy winner Veep, Silicon Valley, Girls and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver along with new series including Divorce and Crashing.  

Mr. Bloys is joined in conversation by Golden Globe nominee Issa Rae, the creator and star of one of the network’s newest breakout hits, Insecure. Rae whose web series, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl helped paved the way for her HBO series, is a New York Times bestselling author. Insecure, which the Atlantic reviewed as a “brilliant, insightful comedy,” was recently renewed for a second season.

Casey Bloys joined HBO in 2004 in the HBO Independent Productions unit, and moved to the programming side in 2006. The former comedy programming chief, Bloys was promoted to the president of programming in January 2016. He has worked on series such as Silicon Valley, Girls, Veep, and Ballers.

Creator/Star, Insecure

 

Issa Rae wrote the New York Times bestseller The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, which was published in 2015. Her web content has garnered more than 25 million views and over 200,000 subscribers on YouTube. In addition to making the Forbes 30 Under 30 list twice, and winning the 2012 Shorty Award for Best Web Show for her hit series Awkward Black Girl, she has worked on web content for Pharrell Williams, Tracey Edmonds and numerous others. Created by Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore, the comedy series Insecure explores the black female experience.
