Zócalo Public Square Presents

Ricardo Salinas

Nov 16, 2011
7:30 – 9:30 PM
New York
Ricardo Salinas
President & CEO
Grupo Salinas and Grupo Elektra

Starting off with his family’s modest chain of electronics and furniture stores and a knack for thinking outside the herd, Mexico's Ricardo Salinas has built one of the more formidable business conglomerates in Latin America—one that provides banking services to the millions at the bottom of the economic pyramid and competes with entrenched TV and telecom monopolies. As he continues to expand his business empire beyond Mexico's borders, Salinas has become increasingly concerned about isolationism in the United States and the fragility of the rule of law across Latin America. Salinas will discuss his thoughts on business, philanthropy, liberty in the hemisphere, the future of Mexico, and prospects for a more meaningful North American partnership with moderator Matthew Bishop, US Business Editor, The Economist.
