Where were you when the lights went out? Some 11.7 million viewers were tuned to the maiden episode of NBC’s Revolution, the breakout hit of 2012. Set in a dystopic future fifteen years after a mysterious blackout disables power throughout the world, Revolution depicts a “place imagined in detail so haunting in its evocation of the lost past, so romantic even in its bleak present, it’s impossible to remain unmoved by it all,” wrote the Wall Street Journal’s Dorothy Rabinowitz. The battle between light and dark is fought on one side by the Mathesons—including Katniss Everdeen–inspired Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) and her Uncle Miles (Billy Burke)—and on the other by Sebastian Monroe (David Lyons) and smiling-cobra Tom Neville (Giancarlo Esposito, who “takes custody of the show whenever he steps on screen,” per Time’s James Poniewozik). Revolution was cocreated by uber-auteur J.J. Abrams (Lost) and Supernatural’s Eric Kripke.
