Rachel Lloyd and Pat Mitchell in Conversation: Sex Trafficking and the Media

May 24, 2012
6:00 PM ET
New York

6:00 to 7:00 pm: Cocktail Reception
7:00 to 8:30pm: A Conversation with Pat Mitchell and Rachel Lloyd

From Pretty Woman to Pimp My Ride to the song “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp,” the media tells a glamorized story of pimping and prostitution. What impact does this have on sex trafficking?

Join Pat Mitchell, president and CEO of The Paley Center for Media, and Rachel Lloyd, founder and executive director of Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS), for a conversation on the role of media and how the glamorization of pimp culture has contributed to commercial sexual exploitation and domestic sex trafficking.

The conversation will also explore how GEMS uses media to dismantle stereotypes of commercially sexually exploited girls and young women, amplify the voices of survivors, and share the truth about the realities of the commercial sex industry.

Tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis. Please RSVP to CChrzanowski@paleycenter.org by May 17.
