Ramadan Primetime, a Link TV original production, explores the phenomenon of television viewing in Muslim households during the holy month of Ramadan. Because many Muslims gather around their TV sets every night after breaking their fasts, Arabic-language networks premiere their most anticipated programs during the month just as U.S. networks program blockbusters during “sweeps” here.

This 30-minute documentary showcases the wide variety of prime-time programming created specifically for Ramadan on hundreds of Arabic channels, from lighthearted game shows to racy soaps to comedies to religious talk shows and epic dramas, many in sharp contrast to typical images the West has come to associate with the Arabic-speaking Middle East. Leading Muslim experts, scholars, and regular viewers at home in the Middle East and the U.S. share their insights into Ramadan television and address how satellite programming is uniting the global Arabic community.
