The Paley Center for Media Honors Discovery's John S. Hendricks at its Annual NY Gala on April 6, 2010

New York, NY-The Paley Center for Media will honor John S. Hendricks, Founder and Chairman of Discovery Communications, at its annual Gala Evening in New York, which will take place on Tuesday, April 6 at Cipriani 42nd in Manhattan. Proceeds from the Gala Evening will benefit the Paley Center's ongoing efforts to increase the public's understanding of the media and its growing significance in today's society through public and industry programs.

"John S. Hendricks is a visionary who believed that there was a need and an appetite for high-quality nonfiction programming, and he pursued this vision with passion and determination. Twenty-five years later, the result is one of the most successful media companies in the world," said Pat Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of The Paley Center for Media. "John is one of our industry's most admired leaders because he achieved this success with an admirable mission to satisfy curiosity and make a difference that still guides the company today."

Hendricks has been the driving force behind Discovery Communications' dramatic expansion, growing its stable of networks to encompass more than 100 networks of distinctive programming representing  27 entertainment brands, including Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Science Channel, and Investigation Discovery.  Discovery's other properties include Discovery Education, How Stuff Works and forthcoming joint ventures OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Nework, children's network The Hub and the nation's first 24/7 3D network.
