BOTANIC MAN, EPISODE 2: THE CRUCIBLE OF LIFE (TV)

Summary

Part two of this 10-part series of documentaries about the role man plays in the society of nature and the process of evolution. In this part, host David Bellamy, a biologist, visits the Great Rift Valley of Africa, an area much like the primeval scene in which life may have had its origins. Once there, Bellamy examines the first steps in the process of evolution. Highlights of this part include footage and discussion of the following: an experiment designed to prove how life originated by reproducing conditions at the dawn of evolution; a pink bacteria pool; chlorophyl and algae; photosynthesis; a time scale marking major points in evolution; and continental drift.
