CAMPBELL PLAYHOUSE {SERIES PREMIERE}: REBECCA, PT. 1 (RADIO)

Summary

Part one of two. The premiere of this weekly drama series featuring adaptations of popular and literary classics. This program presents the first dramatization of Daphne du Maurier's novel "Rebecca," which was later made into a motion picture by David Selznick. Host Edwin C. Hill gives a brief resume of Orson Welles' career. Welles talks about upcoming productions for the series and introduces the program. The story, told in flashback, is narrated by Gloria de Winter. In Monte Carlo working for Mrs. Van Hopper, she meets and falls in love with Maxim de Winter. After their marriage, the couple set off for Manderly, de Winter's home in England. There she encounters hostility from the housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers, and troubling reminders of de Winter's first wife, Rebecca. Frightened by a mysterious man on the beach, Mrs. de Winter asks her husband's friend Frank Crawley about the drowning of Rebecca. Includes commercials for Campbell's soup. Continues with R87:0477.
