Summary
One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by Johnny Carson. On this program, the guests include showbiz legend George Burns, comedienne Tracy Ullman, and musician Jeff Healy. In his opening monologue, Carson comments on the following topics, among others: the spate of John F. Kennedy documentaries on the heels of the 25th anniversary of his death; testy drivers on the Ventura Freeway; cooking the Thanksgiving turkey; a weird dream Carson had the previous night involving Geraldo Rivera; Vanna White's recent acting debut; the newly-created stealth bomber; and Richard Nixon's recent meeting with Vice-President Dan Quayle. Then, Carson and McMahon present a segment in which they asked second- to sixth-graders questions about Thanksgiving, reading their humorous responses. Carson's first guest, George Burns, touches on such topics as: being 92 years old; having the current New York Times best-selling book; dropping out of school after the fourth grade; women he dated before marrying Gracie Allen; why he needed to wear double-breasted suits when thinking about a particularly attractive former flame; acts he had early in his career; never thinking himself a failure, even when he probably was; his technique for courting Allen; Allen's abilities as a performer; and his advice to Jack Benny on how to make one of his parties more lively. Then, Burns sings "Willie the Weeper." The second guest, Tracey Ullman, touches on such topics as: her previous appearance on the show; whether she is becoming "Americanized"; likes and dislikes about America; television evangelists; and why Barbie isn't anatomically-correct. Finally, Jeff Healey and The Jeff Healey Band perform "See the Light." Includes commercials.
