Julie Andrews
The Paley Center for Media is thrilled to welcome the incomparable Julie Andrews to our stage to talk about her contribution to television. The mass medium brought the Andrews magic to her widest audience with the 1957 classic Cinderella, her variety specials with Carol Burnett and her own Emmy-winning variety series The Julie Andrews Hour, and her dramatic roles in Our Sons and On Golden Pond. Ms. Andrews will discuss her work and take audience questions. Signed copies of her newest children’s book, Julie Andrews’ Collection of Poems, Songs, and Lullabies, will be available in advance of its official release.
For a private reception with Ms. Andrews, join us for PALEYAFTERDARK.

I like her quite a bit. She's also gone on to become, for example, the most professional presence on such disasters as the Princess Diary films. She's kind of being hired on all her movies to be their version of Kathy Bates or Sigourney Weaver.

The Sound of Music's appeal has cut across every age group and demographic. While The Sound of Music has superficially been often associated with conservative family values, why do you think The Sound of Music has such an enduring appeal among both gay and lesbian audiences and seems to be often recalled as an important formative movie in their early queer identity formation? What do you think it is about the movie that resonates with their experience?
