Filmmaker Chris Wong
Principal Edward Tom, Film Subject; Assistant Principal Madeline RĂos, Film Subject

An intriguing educational documentary, Whatever It Takes follows a small South Bronx high school on an emotional journey through its first year. Principal Edward Tom envisions the Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics as a safe haven where children can focus on a rigorous and meaningful education. A dramatic, ultimately inspirational story with uncommon access to its subjects, Whatever It Takes engrossingly chronicles the world of 109 ninth-grade students born into hardship, but rising to excellence. This Chris Wong project won the Paley Center’s 2006 Pitch Workshop.
