Newly divorced moms raising kids on their own have been part and parcel of television since the 1970s, but this season’s love-it-or-hate-it show Cougar Town proves that single moms have come a long way from One Day at a Time and Kate and Allie—whose heroines were more concerned about keeping their jobs and enforcing their children’s curfews than going to wild parties and snagging hot boyfriends. Though Cougar Town has garnered the inevitable comparisons to Sex and the City, “For all the sex jokes, this is at heart a family comedy, with Courteney Cox completely winning as a mom trying to make herself happy without making her son miserable,” writes USA Today.

Cougar Town is produced by Coquette Productions, in association with ABC Studios.

  • You have one of the most talented but underused actresses on your show, Carolyn Hennesy.  Will we have more adventures from Barb coming up in the second season?

  • To Christa-  Does it ever trouble you that your husband keeps casting you to play characters that tend to be moody and sarcastic?

    VanNuyser, March 04, 2010 at 12:15 pm

  • To Bill- This past season, you essentially had two new pilots go into production at once.  How did you balance your time between these two full-time jobs?  Did one take priority over the other?

  • I know you probably can't give away too many spoilers, but is Travis going to go away to college? Because if he is you're going to lose some viewers! Unless you do a spin off about his college life.

  • Never before have I so hated an idea for an upcoming series only to absolutely fall in love with it!  CT is hilarious and has one of the best ensemble casts around.  Kudos on casting.

Question: Would the cast please explain how they were cast and what their audition process was like - if they did audition.
