Since its debut in June 2002, American Idol has been one of the most successful juggernauts in the history of television, dominating the ratings for six consecutive years. What started out as an interactive talent competition has evolved into a global media institution. Now in its tenth season Idol is reinventing itself, dramatically adding two music luminaries—Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler—as judges. The producers are also making several format modifications, from ending gender parity to a new sudden-death round. But the core mission remains: to discover the next recording star. Through the years Idol has remained a powerhouse in launching the careers of many diverse artists, including Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson, multiplatinum country singer Carrie Underwood, and the Tony-nominated Constantine Maroulis.

  • Hi Thia! Being the youngest one in the competition how did this advantaged and disadvantaged you so far?

  • Hi..

Pia Toscano was called Sweet Pea by her dad when she was a kid. She now has a fansite that calls it "The Home of the Sweet P's" Ask her if she is aware of her fanbase doing that in honor of her father and to explain the story to america. They will get a kick ouy of it!

  • Question for Pia Toscano:

Pia, you have a fantastic voice and I am a huge fan.  I understand you've auditioned for American Idol before.  Has it been progressively easier or harder for you to "try, try again"?

  • Question for Randy:

In addition to pure singing skills, I ultimately judge the performers by asking myself the question, "Would I pay to see this person perform?".  Do you think this is a valid criterion for selecting an American Idol?

  • 3 questions to the Executive Producers:

    1. Why are contestants being limited this year from playing musical instruments and why?

    2. Why does it appear that singing original songs is discouraged on the show?

    3. Do you think that Adam Lambert changed the show forever by raising the bar on performance levels?  How do you think Adam impacted the show overall?

  • What % of the show's top 12 finalists of the earlier seasons have gone on to a professional music career ?

  • What do Steven Tyler's rock buddies make of his participation on the show this year ?

    GED, March 13, 2011 at 3:06 pm

  • The cut of nine contestants in one week from 24 to 13 seemed a little brutal, giving those contestants only one shot at singing in front of the American public. Might cutting four contestants a week over three weeks been a fairer way to go and make for three big shows?

    GED, March 13, 2011 at 2:57 pm

  • The show started out as "Pop Idol" in the UK, but the music horizons seem to have expanded and now includes styles such as Jazz. Is this move true to the show's roots ?
