White Collar, a breezy crime drama from USA Network, hails from the tradition of what critic Roger Ebert calls the “Wunza Movie” to describe buddy-cop movies pairing two disparate characters (like 48 Hrs., “one’s a” cop and “one’s a” criminal). Jeff Eastin’s White Collar brings together the cop-and-con team of FBI agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) and master thief Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), who is spared a return trip to the pokey in return for helping the G-man bust criminals of the titular variety. Critics praise the chemistry between the leads, and also the show’s wry, winsome tone, which the Boston Globe’s Matthew Gilbert describes as “effortless and agile as it toggles from comedy to intrigue and back.”

  • Jeff, how far back is the backstory on your characters, and have you strayed from the original stories since you began filming? If so, how or how much have they changed?

When the actors first started interpreting the characters, was it close to what you had in your head, or was it totally different?

Considering Neal has been everywhere in the world, will Neal and Peter ever work on a case outside NYC?

For all the actors: now that most of you have played your characters for two years, how do you keep learning about them to keep them fresh?

Also for all the actors: Is it difficult to get back to your character after a hiatus? How do you get yourself back to that character's place in time? Do changes or insights in your own life affect the way you play a character?

The mythology of the music box was a large part of what roped me in to the series. Since that is wrapping up, are viewers in for another mysterious 2 year story arc? Will it tie into the last 2 years, or will it stand on its own?

For all panelists: What guest star would you like to see in the series?
