The Paley Center for Media Announces PaleyFest09

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Los Angeles, CA—The Paley Center for Media will present the twenty-sixth annual William S. Paley Television Festival (PaleyFest09) from April 10 to 23, 2009, at the historic Cinerama Dome at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood with a special closing night presentation at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills on April 24. This year's Festival will feature three PaleyFest "firsts"—the first festival event to honor new media property, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog; the first public PaleyFest event held at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills, the special closing night presentation celebrating Swingtown; and the first to premiere the last three unseen episodes of Pushing Daisies. PaleyFest09 is an extraordinary interactive pop culture event, connecting fans with the casts and creators of their favorite series as well as the icons who have changed or are changing the face of media. Named for William S. Paley, founder of both the Paley Center and CBS, PaleyFest continues its twenty-sixth year tradition of celebrating the collaborative creativity behind making great entertainment content—from the genesis of an idea to that vital connection with audiences the world over. PaleyFest evenings include a screening of highlights from the honored series followed by a panel discussion with members of the cast and creative team.

"For twenty-six years, we have celebrated the best of television, and now new media, with the creative teams who make the breakthrough programs. This interaction between the creative community and media enthusiasts has made this annual Festival a 'Must Be There' event," said Pat Mitchell, the president and chief executive officer of The Paley Center for Media. During the Festival at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills, PaleyFest panels with the cast and creative team from the last twenty-six years will be featured including last year's Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reunion, Beverly Hills 90210, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Angel, Alias, Battlestar Galatica, Pushing Daisies, and many others from April 10 through April 19. Starting on Wednesday, April 22, the Paley Center will screen the first twelve episodes of Swingtown in broadcast order leading up the closing festival event with the cast and creative team of the series at the Paley Center.

Since the first Festival in 1984, the Paley Center has honored nearly three hundred programs, including 24, Alias, American Idol, Beverly Hills 90210, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cheers, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Entourage, The Family Guy, Friends, Grey's Anatomy, The Golden Girls, Gunsmoke, House, The Honeymooners, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, Lost, M*A*S*H, Mad Men, The Office, Roots, Route 66, Sábado Gigante, Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Six Feet Under, South Park, thirtysomething, Ugly Betty, The Untouchables, The West Wing, and The X-Files, along with such personalities as Judd Apatow, Lucille Ball, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Sally Field, Jane Fonda, John Frankenheimer, Jim Henson, Bob Hope, Angela Lansbury, Jack Lemmon, Mary Martin, Carl Reiner, Garry Shandling, Flip Wilson, Jonathan Winters, and many others.
