The Paley Archive at the Beverly Hills Public Library
Every Saturday and Sunday, families can enjoy a fun, entertaining, and educational program featuring screenings of beloved TV shows inspired by classic children’s books. The program starts with a cozy story time, where a presenter reads the original book aloud. Afterward, families will watch the TV show adaptation and participate in arts & crafts and activities inspired by the stories. It’s the perfect combination of reading, watching, and playing—only at Paley!
All families are welcome; only Paley Members can reserve spots in advance.

June Arts & Crafts: Berenstain Bears Paper Bag Puppets
Join the Berenstain Bears for a day of fun as you create your own paper bag puppet! Using simple materials like paper bags, construction paper, markers, and glue, you’ll bring Papa, Mama, Brother, or Sister Bear to life. Afterward, you can put on a puppet show with your new creation! It’s a great craft for family bonding and sparking creativity.

Originally created by Ludwig Bemelmans in 1939, Madeline is a seven-year-old redheaded girl attending boarding school in Paris, joined by her eleven classmates and led by their teacher, Miss Clavel. Though Madeline is the youngest, she is the bravest and finds herself in a series of adventures around Paris. Join us for stories featuring Madeline, her classmates, and the often-mischievous next-door neighbor, Pepito.

In this episode, Madeline takes painting lessons and decides to have her painting framed. While out on a trip to the frame shop, Miss Clavel takes the girls to the Louvre, and Madeline accidentally leaves her painting behind. When a security guard and curator mistake it for a new museum piece, they decide to hang it next to the Mona Lisa! How will Madeline get her beloved painting back?

In this episode, Miss Clavel takes Madeline, her classmates, and their dog Genevieve to the opera. Unfortunately, Genevieve cannot help but sing along with the baritone on stage. When the girls awake the next morning, they are heartbroken to find Genevieve missing but are surprised to find her back at the opera. Madeline must come up with a plan to get their beloved dog back.

SEPTEMBER
Theodore Seuss Geisel wrote and illustrated more than sixty children’s books that introduced the world to a multitude of colorful and charismatic characters including the Cat in the Hat, Horton the elephant, the Lorax, and so many more. This month, we celebrate the legendary storyteller with onscreen adaptations of his books, as well as crafts as whimsical as his characters.

Bring The Cat in the Hat to life! Using paper plates, colorful construction paper, and markers, craft your very own Cat with his tall, striped top hat. Plus, make a fun foldable bookmark that flips between the mischievous Thing 1 and Thing 2! Get ready for a Seuss-tacular time!
