HALLMARK HALL OF FAME: THERE SHALL BE NO NIGHT (TV)
Summary
One in this series of dramatic specials presented by Hallmark. This is an adaptation of Robert E. Sherwood's Pulitzer Prize-winning play about Dr. Karoly Valkay, a Hungarian Noble Peace Prize recipient, his American wife, Miranda, and their son, Erik, during the Hungarian rebellion against the Soviets in 1956. Dr. Valkay, a pacifist, becomes enraged about Erik's decision to fight against the Soviets and warns that a violent uprising must not occur. The family goes to a church vigil for the Hungarian nation.
Valkay tells his wife that she should go to America but she refuses. Valkay, working at a field hospital, receives the news of his son's death. Surrounded by Soviet tanks, Valkay decides not to escape but to die in battle to show the world that the Communists killed a Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Miranda, offered the chance to leave Hungary, stays to aid the resistance and fight for the cause for which her family died. Includes commercials.

(Beginning with the live telecast of the opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" on December 24, 1951, Hallmark has sponsored a series of dramatic specials which, since 1952, have aired under the title "Hallmark Hall of Fame." From 1952 to 1955 Hallmark also presented "Hallmark Hall of Fame," a weekly half-hour dramatic anthology series hosted by Sarah Churchill. The first broadcast, "Dr. Serocold," was aired in January 1952 under the title "Hallmark Television Theatre." This series also ran under the title "Hallmark Summer Theatre" in July and August 1952.)
