Make no mistake about the iconic status of Beverly Hills, 90210. The nineties series about fast-track teens and their struggle for acceptance was seminal to the teen genre, spawning shows from Dawson’s Creek to Gossip Girl. This season’s new spin-off has brought back core fans while grabbing new viewers—reuniting original series stars Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty and introducing the Wilson family, who move to Beverly Hills from the Midwest. This time around, as Annie Wilson (Shenae Grimes) and her adopted brother Dixon (Tristan Wilds) receive their “you’re-not-in-Kansas-anymore” wake-up call at West Beverly Hills High, the spoiled rich kids sport BlackBerrys and Botox. Nonetheless, “despite the racy hype, the series is an innocent throwback to another time,” wrote the Boston Herald. Executive producers include Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah (Freaks and Geeks).
