CONTINENTAL, THE (TV)

Summary

The second of three programs on this tape. One in this series of romantic monologues. Renzo Cesana plays a suave, debonair Italian count from one of Rome's leading families as he delivers a sultry, fifteen-minute romantic monologue to the camera, directed at the women in the viewing audience. This series began as a local, late-night program on KNBH, Los Angeles in 1951; when CBS aired the series twice a week following local news, national fan clubs and profiles in Time and Life magazines emerged. As networks dropped their quarter-hour programs, Cesana moved to KTLA to host "Ladies, The Continental." In this installment, the Continental discusses women's fashions, thanking his imaginary date for dressing up for him and recalling the rise and fall of hem lines since his youth. He moves on to gloves, noting that he has a pair of the date's gloves pressed in a book. After reciting the lyrics to the song "These Foolish Things," the Continental muses on the significance of a woman's hand and sets up a date to see his beloved the following Thursday. Includes commercials.
