SAVING GRACE: WE'RE ALREADY HERE {THIRD SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this dramatic series about Oklahoma City police detective Grace Hanadarko, who's troubled by external and internal demons before she's "saved" by the angel Earl. In this episode, Grace and Ham drunkenly paint over Texas Longhorn graffiti from a bridge overpass, after which Ham "makes due" upon failing to find a nearby urinal. Elsewhere, Earl reaches out to Neely Lloyd, a young drug addict with an abusive boyfriend, Travis Wayne. However, Neely is terrified by Earl's presence and thinks he's a demon. Later, Grace fails to break into Neely's house, though the angel encourages her to keep trying. Grace gets Ham to tow Travis's car, allowing her to talk with the distraught woman. However, Travis returns unexpectedly and shoots at Neely, having already pistol-whipped Ham and stolen his badge. When Captain Perry reports to the scene, she reads Grace the riot act. Later, Butch and Bobby find a makeshift meth lab on the site, and learn that Travis has carjacked a vehicle and escaped. Rhetta finds stolen police uniforms in a closet, then switches gears and ribs Butch about his budding romance with TV reporter Kendra Burke. Meanwhile, Kendra reports that a videotape exists of individuals painting the bridge and performing a lewd act, which will be released if the culprits don't report for counseling to Pastor Jason Cavanaugh. Grace and Ham subsequently plan to confiscate the tape. Later, Bobby and Butch learn that police uniforms have "disappeared" from a dry-cleaning business, making them think that Travis and his roommate Jeb Macey are planning to impersonate officers. Next, Travis is found shot to death in a truck belonging to Joe Ricky Dunmore. Henry notices an X tattoo on Travis's arm. Grace and Ham surmise that Jeb and Travis were part of an extremist group, headed by X. When Butch goes to the dry-cleaning store where the uniforms were stolen, he arrests a clerk, twentysomething Emily, who is in the same college chemistry class with Jeb and Joe. Before leaving the store, they also arrest Emily's mother Molly, who bears an X tattoo like Travis's. Molly claims that X is her boyfriend, who may have filched the uniforms. When Rhetta makes a discovery about chemical components in Joe's truck, Grace deduces that a bomb will go off at Snapper's funeral, where police will be packing the church. As Butch and Bobby ask Joe about X, Grace and Ham look for X at the funeral. Ham catches Jeb, disguised in a police uniform, locking the doors to the chapel while Grace nabs X -- also in an officer's guise -- and finds the bomb. The jailed X admits to killing Travis and is unrepentant about trying to bomb Snapper's funeral, as is Joe Ricky. Later, Kendra and Butch admit that the videotape and Pastor Jason were part of an elaborate prank on Grace and Ham. Butch then announces that he and Kendra are engaged. Finally, Grace goes to the hospital and hears that Neely will survive her injuries, realizing that Earl is watching over both of them.
