BROTHERS & SISTERS: A VALUED FAMILY (TV)

Summary

One in this drama series about the California-based Walker family, an adult clan of siblings trying to live up to their parents' lofty expectations after the death of the family patriarch.

In this episode, Justin, Rebecca, Kevin, Scotty, Sarah, and Roy attend an art auction in which the names of the painters are withheld, though each onlooker is more focused on potential presents for the upcoming Valentine's Day. After stating to Kevin and Scotty that she was never in love with Luc during their encounter in France, Sarah admires a piece of modern art which Roy dislikes. Sarah doesn't realize that Luc is secretly watching them -- and that he painted the piece. Across town, Kitty informs Robert that she's about to announce her candidacy to fill his senatorial position. Elsewhere, Holly breaks down and tells David that she wants Dennis York out of her life, and that she refused to sleep with Dennis to learn the secrets of Ojai. She adds that she regrets having sold all her shares in Ojai to Dennis.

The next day, Nora spends time with Rebecca, who suddenly feels pain in her stomach. Later, at the hospital, Nora tries to console Rebecca upon learning that she lost the baby. After Holly arrives, Nora and Holly call a truce to their war, with Holly thanking Nora for aiding Rebecca. Meanwhile, Kitty interviews Buffy for the position of campaign manager, then hires her despite Buffy's aggressive manner. Kitty assures Buffy that she's now in remission from cancer, and that there are no skeletons in her closet. Neither is aware of Alec's surprise visit to Robert's office, during which Alec tells Robert that he got a mysterious phone call about his relationship with Kitty. Robert urges Alec to meet the caller, and says they'll get to the bottom of any smear campaign.

Before Kitty goes to see Rebecca, Buffy reveals that she's investigated Ojai's financial status, and that Holly has sold her shares to a conglomerate. At the hospital, Justin tries in vain to soothe Rebecca, after which Kitty and Kevin attempt to comfort Justin. After Sarah tells Nora and Saul about Holly's deal, Nora confronts her old nemesis in her Ojai office. Holly deflates Nora's wrath by relating that she stopped the sale after realizing that her bond with the Walkers meant more than money. She also tells a shocked Nora that Dennis was behind the transaction, after which Nora mysteriously replies: "That changes everything."

As Robert explains the current status of his marriage with Kitty to Alec, Buffy is revealed as the anonymous caller. She explains that she was trying to "vet" any rumors of an affair. Robert is outraged, but Kitty refuses to fire Buffy. She informs them both that she'll announce the candidacy on her own terms -- from her house on Valentine's Day. Elsewhere, Roy gives Sarah the painting she admired for Valentine's Day, then breaks up with her. Sarah acknowledges that it's the right action for both of them. Things are equally awkward between Rebecca and Justin as they try to adjust at home to their new situation.

The next morning, Kitty successfully announces her hopes to fill the senate seat, with her family standing behind her. Sarah then goes back to the art gallery to have the painting's cost put on her own credit card rather than Roy's. Luc emerges from a back room and admits that he is the artist, and that he misses Sarah. Sarah apologizes for not having returned his calls, just before the two engage in a passionate embrace. Includes commercials.
